As new head of DTU Space, Henning Skriver will further develop the department's high, professional level.
With effect from 1 July, DTU has appointed Deputy Director Henning Skriver as new Head of Department at DTU Space. Henning Skriver has been Deputy Head of Department since March 1 this year.
"Henning Skriver has an in-depth knowledge of DTU as a researcher, long-time Deputy Head of Department and most recently appointed Head of Department. He has been a driving force in the development of the department’s educational programs. Therefore, I am very pleased that he applied for the position and I am sure that he will take up the task," says DTU President, Anders Bjarklev on the occasion of the appointment.
Henning Skriver, who is 63 years old, graduated as an electrical engineer at DTU in 1983, and has since worked with research in radar remote sensing in the same place. In 2001 he became associate professor at the then Ørsted-DTU and later from 2007 at DTU Space, where he became head of the section 'Microwaves and Remote Sensing' that same year. In 2014, he became Deputy Head of Department at DTU Space and on March 1 2020, he was appointed acting Head of Department.
Henning Skriver has held numerous positions in international space-related organizations. Among other things. during the period 1995-2006 he was Denmark's representative in the European Space Agency ESA's Data, Operations, Scientific and Technical Advisory Group and the Programme Board for Earth Observation. Since 2013, he has been Danish representative on the space committee under the EU's Horizon 2020 research programme.
"It is my ambition to maintain and further develop the very high academic level at DTU Space together with the incredibly talented staff. We must further orient the institute towards the needs of society through collaborations with national and international partners, including universities, authorities and companies," says Henning Skriver.
"And an important element of our efforts to provide knowledge and results to the community is our ability to educate talented and well-qualified graduates who can meet the very high standards set in the industries that employ our graduates."
Henning Skriver is married to Bente, who is employed at Novo Nordisk, and they live in Værløse. He has two children of 33 and 30 years, and two grandchildren of 5 and 2 years. He spends his free time on grandchildren and traveling.
