The companies based at Scion DTU are experiencing increasing growth for the second year in succession. The working relationships the companies have with each other and with DTU are showing particularly positive development.
Once again in 2014, Scion DTU saw considerable growth among the companies affiliated with the science park. The total increase in revenue was an impressive 14 per cent, which is significantly higher than the national average of 1.5 per cent.
Fully 62 per cent of all companies based in the science park achieved more growth, and half of them succeeded in doubling their revenue. At the same time, the science park has created 220 new jobs and filed 98 new patent applications.
“As I see it, the continued success is due to the fact that the environment at Scion DTU is becoming better and better at supporting the companies’ development. More than half the companies are in partnership with another company based in the science park, and this naturally helps boost both the environment as a whole and the individual companies,” explains Steen Donner, CEO of Scion DTU.
The working relationship with the other companies is the aspect that has shown the most growth—although collaboration with DTU is developing positively as well. In both cases, the number of partnerships has increased by around ten per cent in relation to 2013.
“We work very hard to promote this working relationship, and several of the companies are either spin-outs from DTU or have been set up by people from the University. This means that they have strong ties to the University and are quick to identify the value of working with the departments to develop their companies,” explains Steen Donner.

The science park was originally established in 1962 and merged with DTU in 2004.
This merger laid the foundations for improved knowledge sharing and easier access to research at DTU, which has thus had a major impact on the excellent results of recent years.
