DTU named best Nordic university in recognized Chinese ranking

The newly published Academic Ranking of World Universities 2015 ranks DTU the best university in the Nordic countries within engineering.

The Academic Ranking of World Universities 2015 from Shanghai Jiao Tong University has just been published. Here, DTU ranks number one among Nordic universities on the so-called Engineering List. DTU comes in 6th among the other European universities and obtains a global ranking of 38 on the Engineering List, two places up on 2014, where DTU was ranked number 40.

The Academic Ranking of World Universities is based on an analysis of more than 1,200 universities and publishes data for the 500 best-placed universities. The ranking has been published since 2003.

The analysis includes several scientific fields, for example mathematics, physics, computer science, etc. On the overall ranking, DTU obtains an 8th to 10th place in the Nordic region, while DTU is ranked in the 101-150 interval worldwide, thus maintaining its position globally.

The ranking is based on six indicators:

  • alumni of an institution winning Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals,
  • staff of an institution winning Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals,
  • highly cited researchers in 21 broad subject categories,
  • articles published in Nature and Science,
  • articles indexed in Science Citation Index-expanded and Social Science Citation Index,
  • per capita academic performance of an institution.
