New digital tool tracks DTU research performance

A new DTU-developed digital tool makes it possible to continuously track how DTU’s research performs against international competition.

Today will see the launch of the DTU Research Analytics Platform, DTU RAP, a digital platform that provides an overview of publications and citations from DTU researchers and shows how DTU’s research performs against universities globally.

DTU RAP records research output and impact in the form of publications and citations—both for the individual researcher and at section or department level.

Previously, a department’s output and impact were calculated every six years in connection with the department evaluation, but with DTU RAP you can now get a snapshot of how DTU’s research performs against international competition.

Provost Rasmus Larsen welcomes the launch of DTU RAP:

“DTU RAP is a very helpful tool for everyone at DTU. I’m excited to be able to see how DTU’s departments and sections develop over time and how they compare with other universities globally. I also welcome the opportunity to get an overview of our collaboration with other universities, as well as who is funding the research.”

In addition to department evaluations, data from DTU RAP can be used for the departments’ annual reports and for ongoing analyses.

The data used in DTU RAP is extracted from the Web of Science, one of the world’s most extensive databases of scientific articles, based on the researcher’s ORCID—the global researcher ID. Consequently, an important element in the implementation of DTU RAP has been to ensure that all researchers, from PhD students to professors, have created an ORCID.

DTU RAP was developed by DTU’s research analytics unit, and the implementation of the system, including the roll-out of ORCID, has been conducted by Team Research Analytics and Compliance and DTU Library, both under the Department of Research, Advice and Innovation.
