After several years of construction, Greater Copenhagen Light Rail is ready to run all the way from Ishøj to Lundtofte. To mark the occasion, DTU is inviting students, staff, neighbours, and anyone else who is curious to join the opening celebrations at Lyngby Campus on Saturday, 22 August.
From 10.00 am, you can explore the three new light rail stations on campus: Rævehøjvej, Anker Engelunds Vej, and Akademivej. DTU and its partners will offer music, food, research, student projects, and activities for children and adults.
Travel on the light rail and bus 300S will be free throughout the opening day, making it easy to move between the activities at DTU and along the rest of the route.
Sing along, enjoy Asian flavours, and hunt for flea-market finds
At Rævehøjvej station, you can hear DTU’s International Choir perform hits by artists including ABBA, Queen, and Adele.
If you start to feel hungry, Yatai Food Truck will be serving authentic Japanese and Korean street food. You can also hunt for second-hand treasures when Loppebjørnen fills the area with around 40 flea-market stalls.
Be a DTU engineer for a day
At Anker Engelunds Vej station, DTU opens the door to the world of research. The whole family can take part in interactive experiments and hands-on activities that make advanced research engaging, tangible, and fun.
You can also meet DTU Roadrunners and see the team’s energy-efficient vehicles up close. In 2026, the DTU team won its category at the Shell Eco-marathon in Poland with a result of 330.9 kilometres per litre.
At around 11.05, the official inaugural train will arrive at the station. DTU President Anders Bjarklev will cut the ribbon, officially marking the arrival of the light rail on campus. The ribbon-cutting is the final stage of a relay in which the scissors are passed between mayors, the Chair of the Regional Council, and the DTU President along the new section of the route.
Electric racing car, robots, and drones
At Akademivej station, the DTU Blue Dot project Vermilion Racing will present its latest electric racing car. The team consists of DTU students who develop and build racing cars for the international Formula Student competition. In the racing simulator, you can experience the sensation of speed for yourself.
You can also see DTU RAVEN’s autonomous robots and drones in action and gain an insight into some of the technologies that could help shape the future of transport and mobility.
The celebrations continue at Gladsaxe Town Hall
Once you have explored the stations at DTU, you can board the light rail and continue to the large public celebration at Gladsaxe Town Hall.
The official opening ceremony begins at 11.45, followed by music, theatre, creative activities, and entertainment for children and adults. DTU ScienceShow will take to the stage with spectacular physics and chemistry experiments for the whole family. The celebrations will continue until 16.30.
If you would like to start the day in your running shoes, Trongårdens IF is also organising a five-kilometre fun run along the light rail route. The run starts at 10.00, allowing participants to enjoy the opening celebrations and take a ride on the new light rail afterwards.
