DTU will train more engineers and IT specialists and meet the demand from large parts of the business community all over Denmark. Therefore DTU will implement 6 initiatives as part of further natural development as an elite technical university and partly as a constructive response to the government’s and a broad political majority’s desire for more engineers, IT specialists, and others to be trained all over the country.
DTU also proposes strengthening the interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, the STEM subjects, among young people.
DTU establishes Digital Twin University, which is a new version of DTU’s General Engineering program. It is a predominantly digital education in hybrid form that reaches out to anyone who can and want to earn a DTU degree, regardless of where they live in Denmark.
The concept is a Danish-language digital version of the bachelor’s program General Engineering. The education is offered digitally with experimental elements carried out on Lyngby Campus. The education is targeted at mature students who want to maintain a connection to the area in which they live. DTU will encourage these students to meet locally where Residential Colleges or regional cooperation activities have been established with companies.
The supply chain in the STEM area has been weakened. Fewer young people choose STEM education, and fewer in teacher’s education choose subject lines that provide competencies to teach STEM in primary and lower secondary school.
In the coming years, there will be a significant shortage of teachers with natural science subjects. Towards 2030, DTU, in collaboration with the vocational colleges, will uncover the possibilities for establishing a teacher’s education with a focus on STEM. This is to strengthen admission to the teacher’s education and promote science education and the interest of children and young people. In terms of content, the aim is for a tender that has a breadth and embraces all natural science subjects and technology understanding, engineering, and sustainability.
In collaboration with municipalities, companies and the country’s other universities, DTU will establish several residential colleges as a basis for closer collaboration between universities and companies. This will happen through, e.g. student projects, internships, master’s- and PhD projects.
In addition, residential colleges can support and create a framework for educations and continuing education activities that DTU initiates through Digital Twin University. The same applies to the STEM teacher’s education lifelong learning activities for the primary and lower secondary school area.
DTU is working towards establishing several local knowledge and learning environments. The university, e.g. will offer 3-week courses and enable students to complete internships, do special projects, write master’s theses, and do graduation projects on bachelor programs in collaboration with local companies.
In a first phase, DTU is working to establish knowledge and learning environments in Rønne - with a focus on Bornholm as a hub for the development of, e.g. offshore wind farms in the Baltic Sea, in Rødby - connected to the Fehmarnbelt construction and in Skive - connected to the green research park GreenLab Skive.
A framework for teaching will be established in a pilot phase, and the students will be offered accommodation in the local area. After the pilot phase, DTU expects to launch residential colleges to accommodate teaching and accommodation facilities for students and staff. Towards 2030, more residential colleges with connections to strong business clusters or leading companies may come into play.
DTU is investigating the possibilities of moving the two master’s programs in Sustainable Energy and Wind Energy to DTU Risø Campus. In total, approx. 200 students a year on the two programs.
DTU currently has significant research activities within energy on Risø Campus. It will thus be possible to create a good link between research and educational activities. Offering tuition at Risø Campus presupposes that new facilities are established, as the current building stock cannot be used for this purpose.
DTU is investigating the possibility of moving the master’s program Aquatic Science and Technology to Hirtshals. Some courses are already offered here. Likewise, it is suggested that the diploma engineering program in Fisheries Technology is placed in Hirtshals. However, the first three semesters of the program are completed on DTU’s campus in Sisimiut, as it is today.
DTU is working with Novo Nordisk and other business partners to develop a master’s program in Biomanufacturing, located in Kalundborg. It is assumed that 40 of the students who are currently admitted to MSc Biomaunfacturing on Lyngby Campus will in 2030 apply for admission to the specialization in Biomanufacturing in Kalundborg.
A new master’s program in Industrial Design for 20 students, which is developed and created in collaboration with the Royal Academy (KADK).
