Alexis Laurent is Professor in Quantitative Assessment and Interpretation of Environmental Sustainability, with a focus on methodological development and application of life cycle assessment (LCA) and on development of life-cycle-based methods and solutions for quantifying environmental sustainability of large systems such as countries, sectors or organisations. Main research areas/interests are: - Environmental sustainability assessment oflarge-scale systems (e.g. world, nations, sectors, organisations and cities) with an absolute sustainability perspective (integrating Earth’s biophysical limits) - Development of methodologies, methods and indicators for assessing performances of various systems (countries, sectors, organisations, projects) towards the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) - Development and application of life cycle impact assessment methods, focusing characterisation modelling and normalisation aspects - Development and application of prospective LCA to assess and foresee environmental impacts of e.g. emerging technologies when deployed on the market or future societal transitions - Application of LCA and footprinting within various technology domains/sectors, with emphasis on energy technologies and systems, transport systems (aviation sector, aerospace, road transport, maritime), waste management, food systems and nanotechnologies, etc.
