Academic requirements for this programme
1. Preamble
The MSc programme in Biomedical Engineering requires a sound knowledge of mathematics, physics, human biology and diseases as well as a topics within biomedical engineering.
Applicants are therefore expected to review the contents of the mandatory courses and the desired courses in the MSc program and make sure that the requirements are met, or will be, in good time before starting the program.
The applicants are expected to be able to, at an advanced level, understand and learn new programming languages without teaching assistance. Examples of such could be MATLAB and Python.
Additionally, candidates must have substantial Biomedical Engineering project experience, e.g., corresponding to a BSc project.

National Applicants (holding a Bachelor from Denmark)
2 Bachelor of Science (BSc) in engineering from DTU
2.1 BSc in engineering from DTU/KU’s Biomedical Engineering programme (Medicin & Teknologi)
have a legal right to admission.
2.2 BSc in engineering from DTU/KU’s Quantitative Biology and Disease Modeling programme
have access to be admitted provided this course has been passed

3 Bachelors in engineering from DTU (Diplomingeniør)
3.1 Applicants who have completed Healthcare Technology (Sundhedsteknologi) qualify, when the following course list is met:
- 01920 Calculus and Algebra 2 (5 ECTS) or
- 01035 Advanced Engineering Mathematics 2 (5 ECTS) or
- 01037 Advanced Engineering Mathematics 2 (5 ECTS)
- 62773 Electro physics 1 (5 ECTS) and 62774 Electro physics 2 (5 ECTS) or
- 10916 Physics 1 (5 ECTS) and 10041 Physics 2 - General Engineering (5 ECTS) or 22476 Electromagnetism for Health Technology (10 ECTS)
- 26027 Fundamental chemistry (5 ECTS) or
- 26000 General chemistry (5 ECTS) or
- 26050 Introductory chemistry for life sciences (5 ECTS) or
- 26171 General chemistry (5 ECTS) or
- 62748 General- and electrochemistry (5 ECTS)
It is strongly encouraged that the above courses are supplemented are supplemented by an Internship conducted at a hospital department
3.2 Applicants who have completed the other Bachelor of Engineering (BEng/Diplomingeniør) programmes from DTU qualify when 1) the requirements above for Healthcare Technology (Sundhedsteknologi) are met, 2) Additionally, candidates must have substantial Biomedical Engineering project experience, e.g., corresponding to a BSc project AND 3) the applicants also fulfil the following requirements head of studies can grant an exemption for 01035/01037 based on an individual assessment.

Other National and International (holding a Bachelor from outside Denmark) Applicants
These may qualify based on an individual assessment and provided the applicant holds credits in the following six subject areas. Additionally, candidates must have substantial Biomedical Engineering project experience, e.g., corresponding to a BSc project.
- 10 ECTS Mathematics for technical sciences
- 10 ECTS Physics for technical sciences
- 5 ECTS Chemistry
- 10 ECTS Human physiology, anatomy, cell biology
- 5 ECTS Programming
- 5 ECTS Statistics
Applicants with a degree title of Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery, or Doctor of Medicine are not eligible for the MSc in Biomedical Engineering, since it is an engineering program.
4.1 Specific programs
The above bullet list of six subject areas (in this section) is expected to be fulfilled by proper selection of elective courses for these three specific programs:
- BSc in Welfare Technology from University of Southern Denmark
- BSc in Healthcare Technology from Aalborg University
- Bachelors of Healthcare Technology engineering from Aarhus University
5 Additional requirements for all applicants (except DTU/KU’s Biomedical Engineering program)
The MSc programme in Biomedical Engineering requires a sound knowledge of mathematics, physics, human biology and diseases as well as a range of topics within biomedical engineering.
Applicants are therefore expected to review the contents of the mandatory courses and the desired courses in the MSc program and make sure that the necessary requirements are met, or will be, in good time before starting the program.
The applicants are expected to be able to, at an advanced level, understand and learn new programming languages without teaching assistance. Examples of such could be MATLAB and Python.
Additionally, candidates must have substantial Biomedical Engineering project experience, e.g., corresponding to a BSc project.

General admission requirements
Only applicants holding a relevant Bachelor of Science in Engineering, a Bachelor in Engineering (diplomingeniøruddannelse) or a Bachelor of Natural Science degree can be admitted to a Master of Science in Engineering programme. The bachelor's degree must be less than ten years old.
The individual MSc Eng programme states in detail which bachelor programmes qualify and whether applicants must complete supplementary educational activities.
Requirements for supplementary educational activities can equate to up to 30 ECTS credits and are specified as a list of courses under the individual MSc Eng programmes.
The specific requirements must be met before graduating from the bachelor's programme or in connection with conditional admission to a particular MSc Eng programme. The courses must be passed prior to the commencement of studies within one year from the conditional admission.
Supplementary educational activities in connection with conditional admission to an MSc Eng programme do not form part of the MSc Eng programme, and tuition fees are charged. If the supplementary courses have not been passed within the specified deadlines, the conditional admission to the programme is withdrawn.

Specific prerequisites for the Industry MSc Eng Programmes
The prerequisites are similar to the specific ones that apply to the 2-year-programmes, but in addition, the applicant must have a job relevant to the studies with a workload of at least 25 hours a week, or the applicant may be self-employed in a start-up company.
