The IEEE Industrial Electronics Society has just announced the 2022 recipients of the society’s awards.
The J. David Irwin Early Career Award has been established in 2005 as a recognition for young researchers who have made significant contributions to the advancement of the field of industrial electronics.
Research in industrial and power electronics is essential for enabling the green transition because power converters are ubiquitous – they are used as controllable interfaces between the electrical power grid and renewables (wind and solar), energy storage systems and loads (from pumps, compressors and fans to EV chargers and electrolyzers). There are already millions of power converters out there in the field, so even small improvements in performance of their control, design and diagnostics can have a major positive impact on the efficiency of the green transition. Tomislav Dragičević has recently also won a DFF Sapere Aude award to develop data-driven solutions for power converters, and he has several currently open PhD positions.
Tomislav Dragičević quote: “I am honored to be granted this prestigious award and in this way be recognized for results that I have achieved in the first stage of my research career. I am also humbled to get to stand on the shoulders of giants – past recipients of this award – some of the world’s most brilliant scientists in the field of industrial electronics who I have been looking up to growing up as a researcher. Finally, I would like to use this award as a catalyst for further growth and development of this research area together with my fantastic research group in the world class Power Lab DK facilities of the recently formed DTU Wind and Energy Systems Department.”
