In general, foods can have both positive and negative effects on health. Recent research has made it possible to compare the positive and negative health effects of foods through the application of risk-benefit assessments.
Professor Hans Verhagen has joined DTU National Food Institute, Research Group for Risk-Benefit as an Adjunct Professor. He is one of the pioneers within the risk-benefit discipline and is the author with the highest number of risk-benefit publications.
He has original ideas to bring the area of risk-benefit assessment further. DTU National Food Institute and Hans Verhagen have a great common interest in further developing the field of risk-benefit in food safety and nutrition.
Hans Verhagen is from the Netherlands, he is a board-certified toxicologist and nutritionist. He has worked at several universities (Nijmegen, Maastricht, Ulster, DTU), in contract research (TNO), in industry (Unilever), for national (RIVM) and international organisations (EFSA, where he was a.o. Head of EFSA’s Risk Assessment and Scientific Assistance department).
