Exceptional lecturers rewarded

"At DTU, we have a large number of excellent teachers who train us students to become the best engineers in the world," said Chair of Polyteknisk Forening (PF student association) at DTU Commemoration 2023.

Every year, the DTU students nominate the lecturers of the year. This year the honor went to Maria Montanucci, associate professor at DTU Compute, and Lars René Lindvold, senior researcher at DTU Health Technology. — Every year, DTU students cast their vote for the lecturers of the year award. "Maria gives amazing lectures and great explanations. She has the most well-ordered blackboards for easy notetaking, and always covers everything we need for exercises. On top of this, she is the most helpful and approachable during exercise sessions. She is also always quick to answer mails, and very quickly returns assignments with detailed feedback. All in all, Maria is just an amazing lecturer!

This is what a student writes about Maria Montanucci, Associate Professor at DTU Compute, who teaches graduate students in the following courses; Discrete Mathematics 2: algebra and Algebraic Error-Correcting Codes.

Another student wrote in short:

"She explains the complex mathematics very clearly and rigorously which makes it much easier to learn. She is the most prepared teacher I have ever had in a course."

Maria Montanucci was elected as one of the Lecturers of the Year at DTU Commemoration 2023 on April 28. The awards were presented by the Chair of DTU’s student association PF, who said, among other things:

"What characterizes good teaching is; commitment, trust, dialogue and respect. Today, we pay tribute to two lecturers, who are absolutely exceptional."

Teaches his life experience

The second award winner of the year was Lars René Lindvold, Senior Researcher from DTU Health Tech. Lars René Lindvold teaches graduate students in four courses, all of which have in common that they use light to characterize or manipulate biological systems at either the cellular or tissue level. This also means that the students in the courses get around such different subjects as photonics, biochemistry, cell biology and medicine.

A student nominated him with the following words:

"Lars does not just teach a subject; he teaches his life experience to anyone who is willing to listen to his advice. This guidance is readily integrated into the lectures and whenever you feel like a talk. Sometimes also when you don’t have the time for a talk. And it is not just his life experience but experience and expert knowledge from other internal and external lecturers that Lars has arranged for us. It has been a privilege to have been a part of one of Lars’ courses. I have learned a great deal in the course, ans I have grown as a person because of Lars."

As Lecturers of the Year, Maria Montanucci and Lars René Lindvold each receive a diploma, DKK 25,000, and a small gift from PF.

Meet the two Lecturers of the Year 2023:

The students describe Maria Montanucci as a skilled and committed teacher who is good at explaining complex mathematical formulas. When she gives feedback on assignments, the students have no doubt as to why something was or good or not so good, and they understand what to prioritize in their further work.

The students describe Lars René Lindvold as always welcoming and high-spirited. His teaching is anything but boring, and he stays after class to make sure everyone has understood today's lesson.
