About Rigshospitalet’s Centre for Hearing and Balance

The Centre for Hearing and Balance is an international hub for treatment and research in hearing and balance disorders, founded on a unique collaboration between DTU, patient associations, and the Capital Region of Denmark. Today, the collaboration also includes the University of Copenhagen, Aalborg University, and several private organisations related to sound, balance, and hearing research.

The Centre for Hearing and Balance diagnoses and treats children and adults with hearing loss and deafness within specialist areas such as cochlear implants and bone-anchored hearing systems. The centre also diagnoses and treats advanced vertigo disorders, tinnitus, flying and diving medication, etc. Accounting for more than 50 per cent of all clinical Danish scientific publications, the centre is a leader in research on hearing and balance.

About DTU Health Tech

Since 2010, the number of engineers in the Danish health service has increased by 22 per cent. To strengthen research and innovation in collaboration with hospitals, businesses, and engineers, DTU established DTU Health Tech. The department is part of DTU’s strategic development of the life sciences, which accounts for one-third of DTU’s scientific publications today.

In collaboration with the Capital Region of Denmark and Region Zealand, DTU has created joint positions that allow technical-scientific professionals from a hospital to be employed at DTU or associate professors and professors from DTU to spend their days at a hospital. DTU will significantly increase this type of collaboration to accelerate the development of new health technology. Since 2004, DTU has also collaborated with the University of Copenhagen on the Medicine and Technology study programme.
