Reinholdt W. Jorck and Wife’s Fund’s Research Award 2023 is awarded to three young researchers who have made an exceptionally meritorious contribution. Researcher Sofie Theresa Thomsen, DTU National Food Institute, and Associate Professor Thomas Olsen, DTU Physics, are among this year's recipients of the Jorck’s Fund’s Research Award and travel grant.
Sofie Theresa Thomsen receives DKK 450,000 for her research in estimating the disease burden of chemicals in food. Sofie Thomsen will use the grant to solve methodological challenges using data science. With her research, she aims to make it possible to calculate the unprecedented impacts of chemicals on public health, focusing on chemicals in food systems.
Sofie Thomsen will use the travel grant for one or more research stays with collaborators to develop her skills in toxicology, epidemiology, and data science.
Thomas Olsen receives DKK 450,000 for his research in magnetic waves in two-dimensional materials. With the grant, Thomas Olsen will organise a conference focusing on the use of magnetic waves in 2D materials for digital data processing. The purpose of the conference is to facilitate knowledge sharing, as well as kick-start a serious international effort to realise so-called magnon-based digitisation based on 2D materials.
Thomas Olsen will use the travel grant for a longer stay with professor in chemistry Jiong Lu at the National University of Singapore for his entire research group.
