New research building wins sustainability award

"Brave, daring and something Lyngby-Taarbæk Municipality can be proud of" was one of the jury's reasons why DTU's future research building won the award. The building won because of the project's focus on sustainability all the way around - from the design and construction process to future use.

The sustainability award honours local initiatives that support the green transition, and director of facilities, Anders B. Møller is pleased with the award. "It is recognition that we at DTU contribute to creating good examples that can drive the green transition locally and globally. That is something to be proud of," he says.

When the building is completed in 2024, it will be one of Denmark's tallest timber buildings with its seven-storey timber and concrete construction. The building will be certified according to the international standard for sustainable construction, DGNB Gold, and aims to be awarded DGNB Heart, which is awarded to buildings with a particular focus on indoor climate and working environment.

Research in green technologies and climate solutions

The vision for DTU Climate Challenge Laboratory is to create laboratory facilities for a world-class interdisciplinary research environment in an architecture that supports innovation, sustainability and cross-disciplinary collaboration. The building will be a workplace for researchers and students from different disciplines, universities and countries with the common goal of developing solutions to some of the world's foremost climate challenges.
