In DesignBuildLab, students turn ideas into reality

In the workshops and laboratories that make up DesignBuildLab at Ballerup Campus, you can create everything from small robots to large wooden constructions, 24/7.

The three-week courses are well underway, and the DTU campuses are buzzing with student activity. At Ballerup Campus, particularly the laboratories and workshops collectively known as DesignBuildLab are brimming with life.

DesignBuildLab covers all main areas of engineering and production, from concrete to plastics, automation and robot technology to electronics and health, including a 600 m2 prototype workshop for product development and prototype production.

The workshops and laboratories are open 24/7 for students to work on anything related to their courses and their own projects, but companies can also get access, for example through collaborative or development projects.

If you as a student want to give the large workshop machines a try, you must sign up for a physical safety course. When you have completed the course, you can work independently with the machines.

“We have professional staff ready to answer questions and give advice during the development of, for instance, a product prototype, or who can guide you to the right place or people if you need a special component for your project. So there are plenty of opportunities to get guidance and feedback and to make your ideas a reality,” says Pia Holm Søeborg, Head of Laboratory at DesignBuildLab, about the facilities.
