Almost 8,000 people had ticked off one of DTU's engineering programmes in their application this year, an increase of eight per cent. But despite its popularity, DTU is admitting fewer students than last year. 2,206 people have been accepted compared to 2,283 in 2023 due to the political agreement ‘Flere og bedre uddannelsesmuligheder i hele Danmark' (More and better educational opportunities across Denmark). The agreement requires DTU to reduce the number of students from 2023 to 2024, and further reductions will continue until 2030.
“We’ve got full admission on virtually all study programmes, which is fantastic,” says Lars D. Christoffersen, Dean of Studies and Student Affairs.
“But unfortunately, it also means that we have to turn away many qualified students due to the reduction that has been imposed on us politically, and that’s painful knowing very well that our students are in great demand in the industry, particularly in areas such as the green transition, life science and the digitalization of our society.”
Only four study programmes still accepting students
This year, DTU has offered admission to a total of 1,424 new Bachelor of Science Engineering students compared to 1,447 last year. This is almost full admission, as only the digital programme in technical science has spots available. The fact that enrolment in the BSc Eng programmes is on par with last year is mainly due to the expansion of study places for General Engineering, which is DTU's largest programme with a total of 250 study places.
In the Bachelor of Engineering programmes, DTU has admitted a total of 782 new bachelor students compared to 836 last year.
In total, only four of DTU's 40 study programmes do not have full admission, namely the two programmes offered in Sisimiut in Greenland (Infrastructure Constructions in the Arctic and Fisheries Technology), the digital programme in technical science, and the new Maritime Engineering programme, which is being offered for the first time. However, DTU hopes to attract more qualified applicants in the second round of admissions.
Starting on Friday 26 July, it will be possible to apply for admission to one of the four study programmes with availability at dtu.dk. Applications can be submitted until 7 August, and new students will be notified by 15 August.
The start of the semester and the first day of classes for all DTU students is Monday 2 September.
