Denmark secures €1 billion in EU funding for research and innovation

Danish universities, companies and institutions are successful in securing research and innovation funding from the EU, but the full amount is offset against national funding.

Since 2022, DTU has applied for EU funding for 314 projects. Half of the funding has gone to projects addressing global climate and energy supply challenges, such as the TURBO project, which researches more sustainable wind turbine blade manufacturing.

Since 2022, DTU has received 207 million euros in funding from the EU's Horizon Europe research and innovation programme, corresponding to 19% of the total 1,083 million euros awarded to Danish projects, according to the EU Commission database.

DTU's applications for funding are distributed across a total of 314 projects. Almost half of the EU funding has gone to DTU projects focusing on global challenges with climate and energy supply. Then projects at the highest scientific level, excellent research, took home just over a third of the EU research funding, followed by research in innovation and other areas.

Since 2022, the EU's Horizon Europe programme has contributed a total of €36 billion to research and innovation projects in EU countries. In total, 24,592 unique organizations participate in the programme, which has distributed funding to 13,815 projects.
