Arsen Trace elements Analytical chemistry Speciation analysis Arsenic ICPMS - Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry

My research is focused on the study of presence, metabolism, bioavailability and effects of toxic and essential trace elements and their chemical species in foodstuffs and other biological systems. A key interest is the development of advanced analytical methodologies for the speciation analysis of trace elements in biological samples using chromatographic separations systems coupled to element specific detectors (e.g. Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry; ICPMS). Special focus is on the element arsenic and the analysis and study of natural occurring arsenic species in nature. A novel interest is the analytical characterisation of nanoparticles in relation to evaluate the food safety aspects of the presence of nanoparticulate matter in the food. Furthermore I act as an adviser to national and international authorities regarding the analysis of trace elements and the dietary exposure of the population to trace elements and their chemical species.
