Templates for co-financed research
DTU has three templates for co-financed research. The choice of template depends among other factors on the number of project participants and on whether the parties expect to generate IPR in the project.
Agreement on minor projects
This type of collaboration agreement is used for minor projects which are performed by one or more of DTU’s departments in collaboration with a company.
Characteristic features of the project are that the department has a research interest in participating in the project and that the company and the department do not expect to generate patents or software. Therefore, there is no rights option to take over the project results generated by the department.
The project may for example consists in an examination of whether a model works in practice or whether results from the company’s own research are consistent with theory and practice.

Agreement for two parties
This type of collaboration agreement is used for projects performed by one or more of DTU’s departments in collaboration with a company.
Characteristic project features are that the project falls within the department’s core research area and that the department has a strong research interest in participating in the project. The agreement contains a rights option entitling the company to take over or licence the department’s results in a further defined area, called ‘Field’. A transfer or licence must be made on market terms.

Agreement for multiple parties
This type of collaboration agreement is used for projects which are performed by one or more of DTU’s departments in collaboration with several companies.
Characteristic project features are that the project falls within the department’s core research area and that the department has a strong research interest in participating in the project.
The agreement contains a rights option entitling the companies to take over or licence the department’s results in a further defined area, called ‘Field’. A transfer or licence must be made on market terms. Within the ‘Field’, the companies themselves divide their areas of interest for use of the results in their own individual ‘Field of Use’.
The agreement also contains rules on project organization and project management with a project manager and a steering group, as well as project managers for the parties.
