Accommodation for students

The most common types of accommodation for students in Denmark are hall of residences, studios, or shared apartments. New international MSc students at DTU find housing through two primary channels; DTU International Accommodation Office or on their own.

Accommodation though DTU International Accommodation Office (BDTU)

DTU International Accommodation Office (Boligfonden DTU, BDTU) assists new full-degree international students with a qualifying degree from outside Denmark in finding affordable accommodation for their first year at DTU.

Students can apply for accommodation when they have accepted their offer of admission.

There are different kinds of options to choose from. For more information, please visit: https://bdtu.dk/.

Click here to find information about the Accommodation Office cancellation policy.

All questions related to accommodation through BDTU should be sent to acco@adm.dtu.dk.

Please note that BDTU cannot guarantee accommodation or guarantee that you are offered your first housing priority.

In Denmark, many students live off-campus within a one-hour travel radius and commute to university by either bike or public transportation. Greater Copenhagen offers both extensive and safe biking lanes and a reliable public transportation system, facilitating an easy commute to DTU's Lyngby Campus. From 2026, DTU will also be home to the new Copenhagen Light Rail.

New students are advised to approach their search for housing with an open mind. Unlike some countries, it is not common for students in Denmark to live on campus.

Finding accommodation on your own

Students also have the possibility to apply for accommodation on their own.

Please note

Please be careful not to be cheated as some ads are scams, not many but a few.

Here is what to look for that might indicate that the ad is not serious:

  • Transfer of money to a non-Danish bank account
  • Asking for an extraordinary large amount of money up front
  • The owner will not be present to hand over the key to the apartment

If possible, have a friend visit the place with the owner to see that the place exists and is available, and if you can, wait with the payment until you arrive. If the ad belongs to a housing association, it may be a good idea to look up the association on the internet.

In short, use your common sense.
