Application for residence permit for newly admitted non-EU/EEA students

The application process for a Danish residence permit (a so-called ST1 application) is an online process. When DTU receives your first tuition fee payment we will send you a reference number and access code to enable you to begin the ST1 application process. Please note, that the application must be completed and submitted within 30 days after you have received your reference no. and access code from DTU.

Before you access the ST1 form, it is important that you create a Case Order ID and pay the processing fee.

Procedure

After you have created the case order ID and paid the processing fee, you have to log on and complete part 2 of the form. Please ensure that you state your Case Order ID and upload all the required documentation. You can find more information on the Danish Agency for International Recruitment and Integration's website.

Please make sure to pay the ST1 processing fee to the Danish Agency for Labour Market and Recruitment before you apply for a residence permit. See the processing fee. It is important that you make sure to include any bank fees in the transaction. If the amount received by the Danish Agency for Internataional Recruitment and Integration is less than the required amount, this will delay your application. In addition to this fee, you may be asked to pay a submission fee when handing in your application at the Danish diplomatic mission (embassy or consulate general). This, however, varies from country to country.

The normal processing time with the Danish Agency for International Recruitment and Integration is 60 days for a complete application. However, if the application is not complete the processing time can be longer. Besides, if there is no Danish Embassy in your home country and the documents have to be sent to a neighboring country, then the processing time can be longer than 2 months.

Important Points for a Successful Submission of an ST1 Application

Interview call

Please make sure to fill your application in a precise manner and with all the relevant details. If the information is not clear, you may be called for an interview by the Embassy/ Counsulate in your home country. This will delay the processing time of your application.

Submission of Your Passport

Make sure to submit a scanned copy of ALL pages in your passport, even blank pages. You must also copy the front and back side of your passport.

Submission of your Biometrics

You must submit your biometric features, facial photo, and fingerprints within 14 days after you submit your application. You might encounter some waiting time before you can have your biometric features recorded, we therefore strongly advise you to first book an appointment to have your biometrics recorded before submitting your ST1 application. See the Ministry of Foreign Affairs list of diplomatic missions or application centres where you can have your biometric features recorded.

If you are unable to submit your biometrics within 14 days, please make sure to contact the Danish Agency for International Recruitment and Integration to let them know. Please mention your Case Order ID and the date you expect to submit your biometrics. Find contact information.

Submission of a Financial Statement

Fee-paying students have to only document confirmation of transfer of fees for the first semester. They do NOT have to provide a financial statement towards living expenses. Students who have received a tuition fee waiver from DTU have to provide a financial statement towards living expenses. If you decide to take a printout of your bank statement, please make sure that your name, currency, balance, and date of print is clearly visible. The print out of the financial statement should not be more than 30 days old from the date of submission of your ST1 application. It is important that the student is an account holder in the financial statement and the financial statement only documents cash and not liquid assets. Loan or grants can also be included in the financial statement.

Submission of Your Signature

Note that you must sign your ST1 application with a scanned copy of your signature. For this, you must open the 'Sworn Declaration', which you must sign by hand, scan and attach to the online application. You will also be able to open the declaration in the application form itself. It is important to submit the signature in the right format to avoid delays.

For students who do NOT need a visa to enter Denmark:

If you have applied for a Danish student residency permit in your home country and entered Denmark with your current passport, please ensure that you provide the Danish Agency for International Recruitment and Integration of your postal address in Denmark, so that your papers can be sent to you in Denmark. If you fail to do so, the papers will be sent to the Danish Embassy in your home country.

Changing admission status from conditionally admitted to being fully/unconditionally admitted

If you were conditionally admitted at DTU at the time of submission of the ST1 form, then remember to update SIRI of the changed status as soon as you are unconditionally admitted. You must send your unconditional letter of admission to SIRI.
