Re-admission
Apply for re-admission if:
- You previously studied at DTU
- Have completed fewer than 60 ECTS before withdrawing
Change of programme
Apply for change of programme if:
- You're currently enrolled in a DTU Master's programme and want to move to a different one.
You may apply for re-enrolment if you:
- were previously enrolled at DTU
- have completed at least 60 ECTS, equivalent to the first year of study
- are applying to the same Master's programme
- meet the current admission requirements for the programme
- have been withdrawn for at least five months before the requested study start
- can demonstrate improved ability to complete the programme, if you were previously withdrawn or at risk of withdrawal
- can be offered a place in the programme, subject to capacity
Application deadlines
You can apply for re-enrolment throughout the year.
To ensure that your application is processed in time for a specific study start, we strongly recommend applying within the standard application deadlines.
Applications submitted after these deadlines will still be processed. However, we cannot guarantee processing in time for your intended study start. If this is the case, you will be notified by DTU Study Administration.

Rules and exemptions
If you do not comply with DTU’s study regulations, for example because you did not meet the first-year requirements, used all examination attempts, or exceeded the maximum period of study, you must apply for an exemption.
When assessing an exemption, DTU considers whether your ability to complete the programme has improved significantly since your previous enrolment. Relevant circumstances may be academic, personal, or health-related.
If the exemption is approved, your application can proceed. If it is not approved, your application will be rejected.
What happens to deadlines, previously completed courses, and examination attempts?
If you are re-enrolled in a Master's programme, the following rules apply:
- Maximum study period
The maximum study period is the prescribed duration of the Master's programme plus one year, calculated from the date of re-enrolment. - Adjustment for previously completed ECTS
The maximum study period is reduced by one semester for every 30 ECTS credits you have already completed. - Previous courses
If you return to the same Master's programme, all courses on that programme that you previously passed or did not pass, including mandatory and elective courses, are automatically transferred to the new enrolment and remain part of your new study plan. - Examination attempts
If you have used all examination attempts in a course that forms part of the Master's programme, you will be assigned one additional examination attempt administratively. - Courses completed more than five years ago
Courses or other educational components completed more than five years before admission to DTU cannot normally be transferred to the new enrolment. The relevant Head of Studies may grant an exemption following an individual academic assessment as part of the application process. - Transfer at your request
Courses affected by the five-year limitation will only be transferred to the new enrolment if you request this.
DTU will inform you of the specific consequences that apply to your case when your application has been assessed.
You may apply for re-admission if you:
- were previously enrolled at DTU
- completed less than 60 ECTS
- are applying to the same Master's programme
- meet the current admission requirements for the programme
- have been withdrawn for at least five months before the requested study start
- can demonstrate improved ability to complete the programme, if relevant

How to apply for re-admission
Apply through DTU's application portal. You can log in with MitID or an institutional login, or create a new user.
Please check your email, including your spam folder, and the application portal regularly for updates. DTU Study Administration will provide the final decision.

If your previous enrolment ended because you did not comply with DTU's study regulations, DTU must assess whether the relevant conditions for re-admission are met and whether an exemption is required.

- are currently enrolled in a DTU Master's programme
- meet the admission requirements for the new Master's programme

Check your email, including your spam folder, and the application portal regularly for updates.
The Graduate Admissions team will provide the final decision.
Before you apply
Review the current admission requirements for the Master's programme and collect the documentation required for your application.
If your previous enrolment involved a breach of the study regulations, include the information and documentation needed for DTU to assess whether an exemption can be granted.
