Chemical and Biochemical Product Engineering - Specialization
Chemical and Biochemical Product Engineering
Specialization: Chemical and Biochemical Product Engineering
Product engineering within the field of chemical and biochemical engineering is a direction students with interest in design, functionality, and synthesis of advanced biological and chemical materials and products can choose to specialize in. It naturally includes a strong emphasis on the mathematical description of physio-chemical phenomena and properties as these are important for the product as well as the synthesis and production techniques. A strong connection to physics, chemistry, biochemistry, and microbiology is present. Any individual study plan ought to include some process technological elements.
The following program specific and polytechnical foundation courses are mandatory to obtain this specialisation in chemical and biochemical product engineering

Electives,
i.e., courses not counting as the polytechnic foundation or program specific courses in MSc Chemical and Biochemical Engineering, allow a study plan within chemical and biochemical product engineering to be broadened in scope. This can be done either by choosing additional programme specific courses but the following elective courses are relevant in contexct of an education in chemical and biochemical engineering with special focus on product engineering.
A few examples of electives are listed below in connection with the study plan examples.
02450 | Introduction to Machine Learning and Data Mining | 5 | point | Spring F4A (Tues 13-17), Autumn E4A (Tues 13-17) |
12772 | Life Cycle Assessment of Products and Systems | 10 | point | Autumn E1 (Mon 8-12, Thurs 13-17) |
26428 | Spectroscopy of Organic Compounds | 5 | point | Spring F4B (Fri 8-12) |
28212 | Polymer Chemistry | 5 | point | Spring F3A (Tues 8-12) |

Examples of study plans
Two examples are shown: one for students beginning their MSc study in September, and one for students beginning their MSc study in February.
The study plans are examples only. Students are free to exchange the shown courses with other courses if the general requirements for the curriculum in chemical and biochemical engineering is satisfied. The proposed plans fulfil requirements of the curriculum in terms of the polytechnic foundation, programme specific coursed and thesis but do not fill all 120 ECTS. A few programme specific courses in excess of the required 55 ECTS are here included and these will count as electives.
Proposed study plan - September start
Innovation in Engineering (Polytechnical... Innovation in Engineering (Polytechnical Foundation)
Laboratory Course in Colloid and Surface... Laboratory Course in Colloid and Surface Chemistry
MSc Thesis
Proposed study plan - February start
MSc Thesis
Specializations are merely recommended ways of choosing the courses in the curriculum. Applicants are not admitted to a specialization but to the programme and it is possible to choose among all the courses in the curriculum following the directions given. However, if a specialization has been fulfilled the title of the specialization may be added to the diploma.
