Signal processing, Coding and Visual Communication - Specialization
Signal processing, Coding and Visual communication specialisation
Processing and transmission of signals in communication systems. This includes data compression, video coding and advanced signal processing utilizing e.g., machine learning.
Purpose and Content
This master specialization is composed of courses aimed at providing the foundations for development of methods for signal processing in communication systems and the technologies to transmit these signals. The technologies include both wired technologies as well as wireless communication. The specialization is focused on the signals and processing of these signals in communication systems. This covers both signal processing for the physical media for transmission, as well as signals close to the users and applications, e.g. processing of natural signals such as audio, images, or video to match them to the transmission environment provided. The reason for this dual approach is that there is a common basis for the processing methods.
Job Profile
The graduates from this specialization are mostly working in that part of industry where the physical realisations of communication equipment is taking place. The most well-known example from Denmark is probably the advanced mobile and wireless communication industry including operators. However, there are also a number of possibilities in smaller less known companies, in communication sectors as well as e.g. companies within industrial or traffic control. Another part of the graduates are employed by the growing industry for production of advanced multimedia, such as broadcasting companies, producers of video equipment or internet applications.
Structure of Studies
This specialization requires that the students fulfill the requirements specified in the admission description of the programme in Communication and System Design described in the programme specification.
In addidtion to the compulsory courses and requirements listed in the Curriculum, the following rules apply for this specialization:

Specializations are merely recommended ways of choosing the courses in the curriculum. Applicants are not admitted to a specialization but to the programme and it is possible to choose among all the courses in the curriculum following the directions given. However, if a specialization has been fulfilled the title of the specialization may be added to the diploma.
