What can I do with an MSc in Food Technology
Food science and food technology is currently witnessing a trend where technologies in areas such as food safety, biotechnology, microbiology, biochemical enzyme technology, functional food, nutrigenomics, online measurements of production control and production technology, and various management disciplines are incorporated into traditional food production.
This development introduces new and complex food production and processing technologies, which increases the demand for highly qualified food technology experts. Therefore, there is ample scope for finding an interesting job after graduation, but you might also get the opportunity to continue your studies and pursue a PhD, for instance at DTU.
Typical fields of work
Food Technology graduates are highly qualified to perform a wide range of tasks:
- participation in innovative processes
- product development
- quality control
- project management
- research and development
- general food control
- consultancy.
Career opportunities
With an MSc degree in Food Technology, you will have the qualifications to work in food companies and related industries engaged in production, quality, and safety in production chains—both in Denmark and internationally. Furthermore, you will be able to work in industries involved in the manufacture of food production equipment, and in the consultancy industry providing scientific advice and personal consultancy services.
Pursue a PhD
Once you have an MSc in Engineering, you might get the opportunity to continue your studies and apply for admission to the three-year PhD, which at DTU is a research-based programme ranking among the best in the world. You can do either a regular PhD or an industrial PhD, the latter with concurrent employment in a company.
As a PhD student, you will be part of a research group and have to carry out an independent scientific project.
