Thermal Energy Conversion and Storage

Thermal Energy Conversion and Storage

The specialization Thermal Energy Conversion and Storage provides the student with specialist knowledge both within sustainability and physics with emphasis on engineering thermodynamics. The specialization covers the following areas: mechanical energy, sustainable power generation, heat pumps, refrigeration systems, energy storage, power-2-x, bioenergy and sustainable fuels. Moreover, the study line addresses components such as engines, gasifiers, expansion and compression machines, and heat exchangers, as well as energy savings in industry.

The graduate will have both an overall understanding of energy systems and detailed knowledge of the thermal/mechanical area on both plants and components in plants. This enables the graduate to participate in the design of components as well as plants in future energy systems, and to be employed by either public authorities or institutions, or by private energy producers or consultants.

To complete the specialization in Thermal Energy Conversion and Storage the student must fulfill the following requirements:

  • Have passed Polyechinal Foundation courses adding up to at least 10 ECTS
  • Have passed Progemme Specific courses adding up to at least 50 ECTS
  • Have performed a Master Thesis of at least 30 ECTS
  • Have passed a sufficient number of Elective courses to bring the total number of ECTS to the entire study to 120 ECTS

Master's thesis

MSc. thesis within the area of the specialization shall be conducted. The project can be completed in collaboration with a relevant company.

Specializations are merely recommended ways of choosing the courses in the curriculum. Applicants are not admitted to a specialization but to the programme and it is possible to choose among all the courses in the curriculum following the directions given. However, if a specialization has been fulfilled the title of the specialization may be added to the diploma.
