Specialization (2): Building Systems

The technical field of building systems concerns ventilation, heating, cooling, and lighting to provide a comfortable indoor climate; it also addresses the energy performance of building envelope systems. These topics are closely related to the quantification of user comfort level offered by the technical services, the building envelope, and the overall energy efficiency.

Other relevant courses, though not needed for receiving the specialisation, include: (i) Ventilation and Climatic Systems; (ii) Simulation of Indoor Environment and Energy Consumption using IDA ICE; (iii) Architectural Acoustics; (iv) Basic Fluid Mechanics; (v) Computational Fluid Dynamics; (vi) Building Integrated Photovoltaics; (vii) Solar Heating Systems; (viii) Sustainable Heating and Cooling of Buildings; (ix) Sustainable Development of Solar Energy Systems; (x) Sustainable District Heating; and (xi) Sustainable Building in Extreme Environments.

Specialisations are merely recommended ways of choosing courses from the curriculum. Applicants are not admitted to a specialisation but to the programme, and they can choose among all the courses in the curriculum (according to the directions given). However, if the specialisation requirements have been fulfilled, the specialisation title may be added to the diploma.
