Scientific study environment

DTU Aqua is an active research environment, with an annual production of more than 150 peer-reviewed publications and almost 200 ongoing projects within oceanography, fisheries, aquaculture and management.

As a student at Sustainable Fisheries and Aquaculture you will gain access to this unique and strong research environment, which gives you an opportunity both to follow up-to-date development in science and to participate in it. You will, for instance, be able to do both experimental and theoretical special courses in collaboration with highly qualified scientists and teachers.

Currently, our programme has a student to teacher ratio close to 1:1, which allows flexibility and individual study plans, and promotes possibilities for extra challenges in your study planning.

During your studies you will also benefit from the institutions’ strong networks with private companies, international organizations, and research institutions in Denmark and abroad. This will create opportunities for work placement and external projects.

Student jobs

DTU Aqua offers a variety of student jobs. Traditionally, many of these jobs are filled by our master students at Sustainable Fisheries and Aquaculture, as their unique skills often match the jobs very well. Vacant jobs are often announced directly to our students.

Facilities

DTU Aqua has a large aquaculture research facility with experimental plants for studying fish physiology, behaviour and welfare as well as recirculating aquaculture systems. The facility is unique in Denmark and also highly competitive in an international context.

We also have land based research facilities, targeting mass cultivation of phytoplankton and the rearing of shellfish larvae in recirculation systems, a fleet of small boats, and a production and test site for blue mussels.

Furthermore, DTU Aqua operates the ocean going vessel Dana and an number of smaller research ships and boats.

Additionally, DTU Aqua has a range of laboratories that support experimental work.
