Environmental Chemistry and Contamination - Specialization

Environmental Chemistry & Contamination

Environmental engineers with this specialization obtain in-depth knowledge on the occurrence, fate, and effects of chemicals and particulate pollutants in the environment. Candidates acquire skills to perform risk evaluation and mitigation for improved quality of air, water, and soil. Conceptual understanding, field & laboratory investigations, and computational approaches form the cornerstones of this specialization.

Environmental Engineering students wishing to obtain a specialization in Environmental Chemistry & Contamination must complete at least 30 ECTS within the following group of courses:

12115 Wastewater treatment and valorization 10 point Spring F5A (Wed 8-12) and Spring F5B (Wed 13-17)
12228 Urban air pollution 5 point Autumn E2B (Thurs 8-12)
12231 Applied Analytical Environmental Chemistry 5 point August
12237 Chemicals in the environment 10 point Spring F1 (Mon 8-12, Thurs 13-17)
12238 Priority Organic Pollutants - Transport, Distribution and Transformation 5 point Spring F4B (Fri 8-12)
12245 Water Pollution 5 point Autumn E5B (Wed 13-17)
12330 Contaminated Sites 10 point Spring F3 (Tues 8-12, Fri 13-17)
12331 Field investigations of contaminated sites 5 point June
12336 Groundwater Quality 5 point Autumn E4A (Tues 13-17)
12774 Assessing health, environmental and life cycle impacts 5 point June

Students enrolled in the DTU MSc programme prior to September 2021 the following courses also fulfill the requirements for the specialization:

02431 Risk Management 5 point January
12226 Air Pollution and Environmental Effects 5 point E2B (Thurs 8-12)
12233 Surface Water Quality 10 point Autumn E5 (Wed 8-17)

Specializations are merely recommended ways of choosing the courses in the curriculum. Applicants are not admitted to a specialization but to the programme and it is possible to choose among all the courses in the curriculum following the directions given. However, if a specialization has been fulfilled the title of the specialization may be added to the diploma.
