Water Technology and Management - Specialization
Water Technology & Management
Water engineers manage the water cycle across different scales, ranging from regional/catchment scale to the cities and their infrastructures. They can solve problems linked to water availability, contamination and pollution of water sources, and protection of the natural environment. Water engineers can for instance specialise in water treatment processes and technologies (for industrial, domestic, or recreational use), the sustainable management of water systems (water supply, storm drainage, groundwater) and the monitoring and modelling of the water cycle.
Environmental Engineering students wishing to obtain a specialisation in Water Technology and Management must complete at least 30 ECTS within the following group of courses:
12109 | Physico-Chemical Water Treatment Technologies | 5 | point | Autumn E1B (Thurs 13-17) |
12115 | Wastewater treatment and valorization | 10 | point | Spring F5A (Wed 8-12) and Spring F5B (Wed 13-17) |
12121 | Water Supply | 10 | point | Spring F2 (Mon 13-17, Thurs 8-12) |
12122 | Urban Drainage and Stormwater Management | 5 | point | Autumn E2B (Thurs 8-12) |
12124 | Urban Flood Risk Assessment | 5 | point | January |
12245 | Water Pollution | 5 | point | Autumn E5B (Wed 13-17) |
12336 | Groundwater Quality | 5 | point | Autumn E4A (Tues 13-17) |
12345 | Observation, Modeling and Management of Water Systems | 5 | point | Spring F3A (Tues 8-12) |
30574 | Earth observations for monitoring changes (EO4Change) | 5 | point | June |
30755 | Climate change - physics and observations | 5 | point | Autumn E2A (Mon 13-17) |
The following discontinued course also fulfills the requirements for the specialization:
12110 | Wastewater Engineering: Treatment and Resource Recovery | 5 | point | Spring F5A (Wed 8-12) |
12140 | Integrated Urban Water Quality Management | 5 | point | E7 (Tues 18-22) |
12233 | Surface Water Quality | 10 | point | Autumn E5 (Wed 8-17) |
12342 | Data Driven Hydrological Modeling | 5 | point | Spring F4B (Fri 8-12) |
Specializations are merely recommended ways of choosing the courses in the curriculum. Applicants are not admitted to a specialization but to the programme and it is possible to choose among all the courses in the curriculum following the directions given. However, if a specialization has been fulfilled the title of the specialization may be added to the diploma.
