If you have a chronic or severe illness
For chronic and severe illnesses, there may be consequences of the illness that require support in managing student life. The consequences of the illness can include:
- increased absence due to treatments
- difficulty concentrating
- difficulty forming an overview and structuring and prioritizing
- difficulty focusing on essentials
- difficulty managing your time
With learning-related consequences of a chronic or severe illness, SPS support can be sought to help manage the challenges. For example, you can apply for:
- An academic support teacher
The academic support teacher can address learning difficulties such as support in forming the academic overview, assistance in planning (including during the writing process) or breaking down topics into smaller parts to create clarity. - Assistive devices
Depending on your situation, you can apply for assistive devices, an assessment of assistive devices, and instruction in their use. - Secretarial assistance
Depending on your situation, you can apply for secretarial assistance, such as note-taking.
See the sections on specific chronic and severe illnesses, such as mobility impairment, visual impairment or hearing impairment.
NOTE: All IT aids are on loan and must be returned if you either discontinue or complete your education. Chairs and tables can usually be kept.
